Evaluation of macrophage electrophoretic mobility (MEM) test as an indicator of cellular immunity in ocular tumours.

چکیده
The macrophage electrophoretic mobility (MEM) test of Field and Caspary did not clearly separate patients with ocular neoplastic disease from those with inflammatory disease, although there was some indication of discrimination between choroidal melanoma and ocular inflammation. In our hands the test failed to give a reproducible result for the immunodiagnosis of ocular malignancy. The technique, however, seems to provide some indication of delayed hypersensitivity in experimental inflammatory eye diseases when relatively pure antigens are used.

Evaluation of macrophage electrophoretic mobility ( MEM ) test as an indicator of cellular immunity in ocular tumours AMJAD
That mammalian cells migrate in an electrical field with differing speeds depending upon their surface charge has been known for some time (Ambrose, I965). This method of cell electrophoresis was first applied in experimental immunology by Sunderam, Phondke, and Ambrose (I967), who showed that the electrophoretic migration of peritoneal macrophages from a guinea-pig previously immunized with a ...

The results of an assessment of the macrophage electrophoretic mobility test in cancer diagnosis are described. We found that the test did not reliably distinguish between a group of 18 patients with benign disorders and a group of 25 with malignant disease.

Lymphocytes obtained from the blood of patients suffering from malignant disease liberate, when incubated with a basic protein obtained from carci nomatous tissue or the brain, a substance ( slowing factor ) which reduces the electrophoretic mobility of guinea pig macrophages. Lymphocytes from normal subjects or patients with non malignant tumors do not liberate this slowing factor. The macrop...
متن کاملEffect of Aloe Vera Herbal Extract on Innate Immunity in Balb/c Mice Against Candida Albicans
Background: Based on the reports, Aloe vera extract, a herbal medicine, has antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory effects. Also, this medicinal plant has considerable effects on innate immunity through cytokine secretion which resist fungal infections such as Candida albicans. Moreover, Aloe vera is considered as immunomodulatory agent and regulate inflammatory responses. Materials and Methods: I...
متن کاملEstragole and methyl-eugenol-free extract of Artemisia dracunculus possesses immunomodulatory effects
Objective: Some evidence suggests that chronic uptake of estragole and methyl-eugenol, found in the essential oil of Artemisia dracunculus (tarragon), may be associated with an increased risk of hepato-carcinogenicity. The present study was conducted to investigate the immumodulatory and anti-inflammatory potentials of estragole and methyl-eugenol free extract of tarragon. Materials and Methods...
